Young people aged 12-24 make up just under 20 percent of Cumberland Council’s population. Across the local government area, there about 35,000 young people.
Cumberland Council is committed to helping young people to access opportunities and overcome challenges. It directly offers dozens of services, events and programs for young people.
The majority of these services are run out of the Granville Youth & Community Recreation Centre.
Several of these programs and services are provided in partnership with other organisations.
Services, events and programs with the highest attendance numbers include:
- Community events, such as Youth Week and Festivals
- Youth-focused Lifelong Learning programs
- Homework help and study programs
- Cumberland Youth Strategy
- Regular Youth School Holiday Activities – register online for Youth Activities
Cumberland Council’s Youth Strategy 2017-2021 provides a clear direction for Council and its partners over the next four years to support better outcomes for young people and make Cumberland a vibrant place of opportunity where all young people are supported to learn, be safe, belong, work and contribute.
In late 2016, the council released a Youth Profile and Needs: Key Findings Report, which is based on a survey of 900 young people in the LGA.
