Community News Update

22 February 2022

Message from Mayor Lake

Mayor Lisa Lake

Cumberland Council’s Lifestyle and leisure links program is now available until the end of May and offers a variety of community-based recreation and leisure activities for 18 to 64 year olds who are on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for core support.

This program is a great initiative that encourages development through fun social, physical and inspirational experiences including indoor cricket, lawn bowls, movies, swimming and even concerts and cruises. The activities are organised for groups, and it provides respite opportunities for parents and carers.

I encourage our residents who have NDIS goals and funding to join the program and get the best out of independent skill development and to maintain your fitness, health and wellbeing. For more information or to view the event calendar, visit www.cumberland.nsw.gov.au/lifestyle-and-leisure-links-program

Council will be looking to re-establish some of the formal advisory committees that had been removed in previous years. This will be a great opportunity for the community as it will provide a consultative forum for the community to engage with and provide advice to Council, as well as have input in Council’s policy, program, and service delivery. An Expression of Interest will be going out in the coming weeks once the process is finalised.

I have had a few enquiries recently about the JP services and when these will be recommencing at Council facilities. We are working hard to have this service back up and running over the next few weeks in a COVID safe manner. Thank you for your patience and please visit Council’s website for updated JP service locations and availability.
