Cumberland Council is encouraging residents to get involved in making Cumberland a clean and healthy environment as part of the Hey Tosser campaign. Cumberland residents are now able to report any littering they see from vehicles straight to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) so those doing the wrong thing are held accountable.

To report littering from a vehicle you need to have actually seen the litter being thrown, provide the vehicle registration details, the location and report the incident within 14 days. Then you simply visit www.epa.nsw.gov.au, sign up and report the incident.

“We know the people of Cumberland want a clean and safe environment, so we are calling on locals to register to report littering from vehicles. It’s a great way to get involved in helping to make Cumberland a litter free zone,” said Cumberland Council Interim General Manager Malcolm Ryan.

Mr Ryan explained that “by getting together to report the culprits we can send a strong message that littering is not tolerated in our community and if you litter you will get caught.”

“Cumberland Council has been working hard to tackle litter. Our officers previously launched a project focused on addressing cigarette butts. By implementing a multi-layered campaign using various forms of media, signage and the installation of bin infrastructure, an 86% decrease in the amount of litter observed was achieved.”

Upcoming Council projects as part of the Hey Tosser campaign include live street art performances and interactive education campaigns focusing on local youth and Duck River.
