The Cumberland ClubGRANTS Scheme has distributed $882,000 to 55 local community projects ranging from refugee and disability outreach support to meal delivery for the homeless and vulnerable.

Funded by our local clubs and administered by the ClubGRANTS Scheme, Mayor Steve Christou said community organisations in Cumberland City play an invaluable role delivering services and support to those most in need.

“This year the ClubGRANTS Scheme has provided financial assistance for projects in the areas of mental health, disability, domestic and family violence and welfare services.

“We are proud that our community organisations in Cumberland have access to these supporting grants through the ClubGRANTS Scheme and Council grants programs, especially since the experiences of our vulnerable population has been heighted with the pandemic.

“It’s Council’s vision to make sure as many different community organisations in Cumberland City are resourced with the tools to execute their ambitious visions. This is why we offer a number of workshops and tools to assist organisations with the grants application process.

“Without the ongoing contribution of local clubs, many of these community projects would not be able to go ahead, and Council recognises their support.”

Notable recipients include the Refugee Advice & Casework Service (RACS) who assist vulnerable refugees and people seeking asylum with free legal advice, and the Child Abuse Prevention Service whose 5-week program provides important harm prevention skills for women experiencing domestic and family violence. Good360, OzHarvest and UCA-Parramatta mission will address social and economic barriers experienced by disadvantaged residents by distributing food and essential goods to those in need.

Youth Off The Streets Limited and Granville South Creative and Performing Arts High School will engage disadvantaged students in programs that support them in reaching their study and employment goals. Australian Foundation for Disability will support adults through photography programs, whilst, Northcott Society supports children with upgraded therapy intervention equipment.

“These are just some of the initiatives that will make a difference. There are more also and we congratulate all groups who received funding. These are community outcomes we can be proud of.”
