Local Citizen of the Year Awards - Australia Day 2019

This is your opportunity to nominate someone who you believe has contributed extensively to the community and demonstrated outstanding commitment towards making Cumberland a great place to live, work and visit.

Nominations for the 2019 Cumberland Citizen of the Year Awards are now open.

The awards are separated into three categories:

  • Citizen of the Year: For those aged 26 years or over who live, work, volunteer or belong to a community group in the Cumberland LGA.
  • Young Citizen of the Year: For those up to 25 years of age who live, work, study or belong to a school/ community group/workplace in the Cumberland LGA.
  • Community Event of the Year: Open to ‘free’ community events delivered in Cumberland LGA in 2018, that have been organised by a non-for-profit organisation.

Terms and Conditions

Nomination

Nominations must address the specific criteria.

  • Include as many relevant details about the candidate as possible.
  • A photograph of the candidate should be attached for the Local Citizen of the Year Booklet, or a photograph will be arranged with the candidate in December 2018. These photographs will be used in Council publications.
  • For the Community Event category, copies of event promotions will be accepted. For all categories, please provide copies of all documents and photographs, do not provide originals as they cannot be returned
  • No school reports, personal documents, certificates etc. are to be submitted. Cumberland Council staff may contact the nominator for clarification or to obtain further information.
  • Candidates must agree to the nomination, and terms and conditions prior to submission.

Eligibility

  • Individual candidates must live, work, study, play sport or volunteer in the Cumberland LGA.
  • Individual candidates may be paid or unpaid workers.
  • Individual candidates may not nominate themselves, and must not be nominated by a relative.
  • Community events must have been ‘free’ to attend, and run by a non-for-profit or charity organisation.
  • Community events must have been held within the Cumberland LGA within 2018.
  • Community events can be nominated by the Coordinating Organisation, a stakeholder or attendee.
  • Community events run by or ‘partnered’ with Cumberland Council are not eligible.
  • A Council staff member cannot be nominated for these awards.

Category and Criteria


1. Citizen of the Year: For those aged 26 years or over who live, work, volunteer or belong to a community group in the Cumberland LGA.

  • Demonstrates excellence in their chosen field;
  • Contributes to the Cumberland community; and
  • Is an inspirational role model to the Cumberland community.

2. Young Citizen of the Year: For those up to 25 years of age who live, work, study or belong to a school/ community group/workplace in the Cumberland LGA.

  • Demonstrates excellence in their chosen field;
  • Contributes to the Cumberland community; and
  • Is an inspirational role model to the Cumberland community/school/workplace.

3. Community Event of the Year: Open to ‘free’ community events delivered in Cumberland LGA in 2018, that have been organised by a non-for-profit organisation.

  • Provides the community with a ‘free’ event that promotes community cohesion;
  • Incorporates a new unique component within the event program, theme, promotion or engagement activities; and
  • Displays great community engagement and participation.
