The winners of the Cumberland Art Awards will be selected from the finalists and announced online on Friday, 3 April 2020.

Notice regarding Exhibition and Award Ceremony cancellation

As a precautionary measure in response to the public health risk of COVID-19 the Cumberland Art Awards 2020 Exhibition and associated programs and events including the Awards Presentation Day and Exhibition Launch event scheduled for Saturday 4 April has been cancelled.

We thank all exhibition participants for their contributions and look forward to recognising the 2020 Cumberland Art Award Winners publicly on Council’s website here on Friday, 3 April 2020.

About the awards

Cumberland Art Awards has been running for 10 years and is an opportunity to support our local artists by showcasing new work in a professional gallery as well as developing stronger connections to arts and cultural practice for the local Cumberland community.

The different awards honour local artists and their artworks that best represent an Outstanding Artistic Practice and include Youth And Emerging Practice.

Why we run the awards

The awards allow local developing, emerging and mid-career artists to receive recognition from Cumberland City Council and the Peacock Gallery. Artists can also receive financial support for best arts practice within our Local Government Area.

AWARD      DESCRIPTION        PRIZES                          
Cumberland Art Award  Awarded for the most outstanding artwork. $3000 (non-acquisitive)
Emerging Artist Award Awarded for the most outstanding artwork as an emerging artist. $1000 (non-acquisitive) along with studio space for up to 3 months - valued at $1500.
Youth Art Award Awarded for the most outstanding artwork created by a person aged between 15 to 25 years old. $1000 (non-acquisitive)
People's Art Choice Award Voted by viewers of the artworks and selected for the most number of votes. Announced at the conclusion of the exhibition. $500 (non-acquisitive)
