Watch the lamp ceremony
To celebrate the coming of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, Cumberland City’s temple communities shared a lamp lighting ceremony and Diwali blessings at Sydney Murugan Temple in Mays Hill, located in Cumberland City.
Light is significant in Hinduism because it signifies purity, goodness, good luck and power. Diwali is celebrated on the new moon day when there is complete darkness. Traditionally and symbolically, lamps are lit to remove darkness and bring prosperity, happiness and fortune.
