Council has resolved to place on public exhibition an updated Councillor Expenses and Facilities Policy (PDF, 315.94 KB).
A draft Councillor Expenses and Facilities Policy will be on public exhibition for a period of 28 days, and submissions may be received until the closure of the public exhibition period. All submissions made to the draft Policy will be made public and considered by Council.
The changes proposed to the existing Councillors Expenses and Facilities Policy are summarised below:
- The removal of provisions for overseas travel for elected officials
- The expansion of the Councillor Professional Development provisions to allow and encourage elected officials to undertake an accredited tertiary education course if they so wish
- The expansion of the threshold of the carers allowance from $3,000 to $5,000 per annum to encourage wide participation in Council
- Provision for Council to cover the cost of accommodation/Travel/Meals as necessary where the attendance of the Mayor or Deputy Mayor is required to represent the Council at an event / function
