Mayor Steve Christou’s Weekly Message

An insight into what's happening around our local community.

3 February 2020

Australia Day celebrations

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Australia Day celebrations at Holroyd Gardens on Sunday, 26 January 2020. It was a terrific event and an opportunity to come together as a community and reflect on what makes Australia and, in particular, our region such a great place worthy of recognition.

Local citizen and community pride winners announced

Congratulations to the winners of our region Local Citizen of the Year & Community Pride Awards. We have attracted some strong entries across a number of different categories and fields. I know that our winners will represent Cumberland City to the best of their ability.

Healthy Kids initiative

With 80 per cent of Aussie kids not getting enough physical activity and only two and a half percent eating enough fruits and vegetables, we need your help.

In 2018, I launched the Healthy Kids initiative which encourages children to eat right and get moving. The program has now expanded and reaches at least half of all schools in Cumberland.

We will soon be launching a new competition with schools to promote healthy eating and physical activity. Schools with the best ideas have a chance to win $5000.

For details about how you can get involved visit www.cumberland.nsw.gov.au/healthykids.

Meet your Mayor

It has been an absolute pleasure to meet with so many residents in our community and answer their questions about Council projects and services.

Please continue to come and see me at these sessions and share your feedback and ideas about Council initiatives and our services.

The next session is Thursday 6 February 2020 (10am to 1pm). No appointment is needed, just visit us outside of the food court at Stockland.

In addition to these sessions, residents are free to make appointments to meet with me or Council staff to discuss any concerns or ideas during business hours.

To make an appointment, please contact me on 0419 651 187.
