Christmas in Cumberland City

2020 has been an extremely difficult year, first with the bushfires and then with the pandemic. Everyone has been affected in some way, so with this in mind Cumberland City Council will be proceeding with this year’s Christmas event in Auburn Botanic Gardens in line with COVID-19 regulations.

The event will be different to previous Christmas and carols events, hosted by our Council. For example, there will be allocated seating to ensure physical distancing is maintained; attendees will be required to register on arrival for contact-tracing purposes and crowd control measures will be in place to manage capacity. Importantly, hand sanitisers and masks will be available.

For residents who are unable to make the event, we’ll also be live streaming festivities.

Not all Councils are proceeding with Christmas events this year, however, we hope that our residents take the opportunity to engage with our event and that it brings them some Christmas cheer.

If your local Council has cancelled its annual Christmas event, you’re very welcome to participate in our activities at Cumberland City.

Meet your Mayor sessions

Our Council will be resuming Meet Your Mayor sessions, where residents can come and talk to me and Council staff about issues of interest.

We’re here to service ratepayers and to be accessible. I’m looking forward to meeting more people in our community and listening to their concerns and ideas about Council services, policies and proposals.

The sessions will take place at Stockland Mall in Merrylands on the ground floor near Gloria Jeans. No appointment is necessary, just drop in.

Sessions details:

  • Thursday, 5 November from 10am to 1pm
  • Thursday, 19 November from 10am to 1pm

Supporting local business

As a large Council, our focus has been on reopening the economy since COVID-19 hit.

It was terrific to meet with so many small business operators last month as part of Small Business Month and see how we can support them through what has been a challenging period.
