COVID19: Update on council services

Cumberland City Council is responding to new information daily on COVID19 and is assessing the risk and guidance from both Federal and State levels of government.

Council’s golf courses remain open in line with State guidance. Council staff are informing all players of the conditions of entry which includes:

  • social distancing within all areas of the golf course including the course, change rooms and administration area; and
  • one golf cart per person.

Anyone found breaching these rules will be asked to leave immediately. Council has also restricted access to areas where people can gather, including BBQ areas.

Council-owned tennis courts will reopen for bookings from Tuesday, 7 April 2020. Bookings will only be taken for two players and social distancing regulations apply, including no gatherings of spectators or more than two players, hand washing and arriving and leaving promptly following the booking.

Bookings for Council-owned tennis courts can be made from Monday, 6 April 2020 and are subject to advice from NSW Health regulations.

As a Council, we have closed or suspended a number of Council events, programs and services in an effort to stop the spread of the virus. We have closed our parks, playgrounds, outdoor exercise equipment, sports grounds and public toilets.

The current legislation and restrictions still allows for residents to transit and walk through our parks. However, Council is working to limit the possibility of public gatherings occurring in our public spaces, parks and reserves.

Public libraries, swimming pools, and community centres have also closed.

Other services continuing are:

  • Waste collection
  • City sweeping
  • Customer Service (by telephone, email or online). 
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Feeding animals stationed at Central Gardens and Auburn Botanical Gardens
  • Public health officers for any complaints; and
  • Safety maintenance for roads, footpaths and parks.

Council will continue to accept development applications via email and online requests for planning certificates. Arrangements are also being made for the Cumberland Local Planning Panel to meet through teleconferencing.
