Cumberland City Council has opened its doors to the Granville Centre, a $25 million multipurpose centre in the heart of Granville.

“Suitable for young and older residents, this state-of-the-art centre will be the only place in Sydney’s west to offer a hub for community, mentorship, business and leisure under the one roof,” Mayor of Cumberland City Council Steve Christou said.

“We are very excited to deliver this project and offer these vital spaces for learning, digital innovation and recreation in the heart of Granville. This is more than a community centre; it’s a space for residents and the greater community from all walks–of-life to play, learn, mentor, innovate and inspire.”

One of the spaces for use includes a Creative Suite, which features a music and recording studio and a video studio.

The facilities include a wide-range of resources, including digital recording equipment and software, photography and video equipment, along with virtual reality and robotics capabilities.

“This is a space where producers, editors and artists can mentor aspiring talent, and a place for music and digital enthusiasts to get creative,” Mayor Steve Christou said.

After coming full circle Daniel ‘D Minor’ Harvey, now an award-winning 24-year-old international recording and performing artist, found salvation in music programs during a turbulent youth.

“A facility such as the Granville Centre is important for the future of young people, music is powerful and having a program in the community will change lives. Music changed my life and helped me survive while experiencing homelessness and living in foster homes and refugees as a child,” D Minor said.

Another local talent and future music mentor at the centre A.Girl says there is untapped talent, particularly in areas like Granville, which needs a platform.

“My time at the Granville Youth Centre is my way of giving back. It was the place I discovered such a wide-range of musical talent in our youth,” A.Girl said.

Other spaces and facilities available include:

  • Library including back of house, storage and offices
  • Art Gallery and multipurpose arts spaces
  • Community Centre including a large hall and multipurpose rooms, meeting lounge and commercial kitchen
  • New pool entry including café and kiosk areas, storage and amenities facilities
  • Multi-sports courts and playground.

The project is jointly funded by the NSW Government and Cumberland City Council.
