Cumberland Council will be taking over the provision of waste services in the former Woodville Ward of Parramatta, made up of the suburbs of Guildford, Granville and South Granville. These suburbs became a part of Cumberland Council following the local government amalgamations in May 2016 and since then, services have been continually transitioned from the City of Parramatta to the new Cumberland Council.

Waste services are the last to be transitioned, bringing a close to the hand over between the two Councils in this area. From November 6, Cumberland Council will start collecting garbage, recycling and green waste bins.

General Manager Malcolm Ryan welcomed residents in these suburbs to Cumberland’s waste service and said the most important thing for residents to note is they should ‘continue to put their bins out as they usually do.’

“The suburbs of Guildford, Granville and South Granville have been in a period of transition for over 16 months now so it’s a pleasure to have that process complete with these residents now completely a part of Cumberland’s services,” said Mr Ryan.

“Waste is an important part of what Cumberland does and we want the newest members of our service to have the best experience possible, so we will be doing everything to make sure this change goes as smoothly as possible.

“Simply continue to put out your bins as you usually do. Red bins will continue to be collected once a week. Yellow and green bins will continue to be collected once a fortnight. The only difference is a Cumberland truck will be doing the pick-up moving forward.

“Part of making sure the process is smooth is being honest about the change. During the first few weeks of the new service, there may be changes in the time of day your bins are emptied. But times will become more regular as drivers become familiar with the new area.

“From the get-go, Council will be looking for ways to improve the service for the residents.

“Most importantly, if you have any issues with your new service Council will be on standby to help. We have dedicated staff prepared to answer your calls regarding the new waste service. Simply pick up the phone and call 8757 9000 and let the customer service officer know you are calling about your waste services.”
