Ramadan 2020

Wishing a blessed start to the month for those who are observing Ramadan.

How to Celebrate Ramadan in Cumberland during COVID-19

Ramadan is an important time of reflection and celebration in our community. While COVID-19 has restricted traditional activities, such as outdoor prayers and social gatherings, we urge our residents to maintain social distancing orders and adhere to NSW Health guidelines. We have come up with some great ideas to celebrate Ramadan at home.

The Australian National Imams Council has released information and guidelines for prayers and gatherings, and are strongly urging the public to pray at home and avoid areas of public gatherings.

Giving Back

Ramadan is a time to reflect on our blessings. It's a time to show empathy for those who are less fortunate than ourselves. As Covid-19 continues to impact not only Australians but the rest of the world, we learn the importance of working together to overcome the hardships the virus has caused.

Many of your local charities have set up Covid-19 relief funds for you to consider donating to at this time.

Ramadan Takeaway Food Festival

Unfortunately, we cannot host our Ramadan Street Food Festival in 2020, Cumberland City Council still has many restaurants preparing takeaway meals for families celebrating Iftar at home.

There are many businesses open and operating in the Cumberland City area If you are looking to Shop Local please take a look at our Shop Local page for a directory or to add your business.

Cooking at home

There's no better time to start thinking about food conservation and how to get the best out of your Iftar leftovers and pantry items. Take a look at our Stop Food Waste page and past Flavours of Auburn photos for recipe inspiration.
