Cumberland City Council is pleased to welcome a new Deputy Mayor to its chambers following an ordinary Meeting of Council on Wednesday 28 September.

Councillor Suman Saha has been elected as the new Cumberland City Council Deputy Mayor and takes over the position from Councillor Kun Huang who will remain a Councillor for the Regents Park Ward. 

The motion was actioned in accordance with section 231 (1) of the Local Government Act 1993 and the term is now in effect from 28 September 2022 to September 2023.

Councillor Suman Saha is a Wentworthville Ward Councillor and has lived in the Cumberland area with his family since 2005. He was first elected as a Councillor in 2017 and since then has been working closely with many of our multicultural communities, especially our subcontinent groups.

Deputy Mayor Suman Saha said it is a great honour to serve the people of Cumberland.

“I want to make a difference and ensure all voices are heard. I look forward to supporting the Mayor and working with you all to ensure everyone has access to council services regardless of age, gender and ethnicity.” he said.

“I thank the people of Cumberland for placing their trust in me. Thank you for showing faith in me.”

Cumberland City Mayor Lisa Lake welcomed Councillor Saha to Chambers in his new role as Deputy Mayor.

“Councillor Saha has been active with communities in the Wentworthville Ward and has been a great help to me as Mayor,” she said.

“I look forward to working closely with him in this important role as Deputy Mayor and I think Cumberland is going to have a great 12 months, Congratulations!”
