The exciting process of making Wyatt Park an appealing and valued recreational hub has officially kicked off with Cumberland Council commissioning a Plan of Management and Landscape Concept Plan for the precinct.

Cumberland Council has engaged consultants Spackman, Mossop and Michaels Pty Ltd. to develop a Plan of Management and Landscape Concept Plan, to set a clear direction forward by clarifying:

  • desired future uses of the park
  • potential additional facilities and development
  • ways to increase safety for park users
  • guidelines for improved future management and maintenance of the park.

“Wyatt Park has the potential to be a premier recreation hub for local residents as well as users from further afield. The existing structure of the park and established landscape provide strong bones to build on,” Cumberland Council Administrator Viv May said.

“We believe the key to achieving this vision lies in developing a clear, creative plan that builds on the existing recreation, heritage and landscape values of the site. This way Council can deliver a revitalised parkland that delivers open space and recreation that the community can get excited about, now and into the future.

“We want the plan to reflect community and stakeholder values and priorities. That’s why we have tasked consultants to conduct extensive professional talks with all stakeholders, whether they be the current users of the facilities at the park or the recreation providers themselves.

“This is key to understanding existing use and growth patterns, and likely future needs, helping identify current issues or opportunities that exist within the park to realise the best use of the land.

“This information will also assist in planning, prioritising and budgeting for development in the park and on-going management operations to cater for growing demand and finally meet the substantial potential of this park.”

Wyatt Park is home to the Auburn Youth Centre, Lidcombe Oval, Cumberland Basketball Centre, PCYC and the newly opened Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre.

“Because of its central location, Wyatt Park is a prime area to showcase the modern approach by Cumberland Council to upgrade and rejuvenate the area,” Cumberland Basketball Centre General Manager Dawn Bourke said.

“We’re fully behind Cumberland Council’s plan to develop a Plan of Management and Landscape Concept Plan, making the environment friendly to families for outdoor and indoor activities.”
