Cumberland Emergency Accommodation

Parramatta Women’s Shelter in collaboration with Evolve Housing Limited and Women’s Community Shelters have opened its first Core & Cluster service located in the Cumberland Local Government Area. The Shelter provides a crucial service for women with or without dependent children, who are experiencing homelessness due to domestic and family violence. The Core and Cluster model provides a safe space for women to rebuild and heal in a centralised location with onsite access to caseworkers and community support services. It’s a great milestone moment for Western Sydney to have another women’s refuge in Cumberland.

If you or someone you know needs support regarding domestic, family or sexual violence, call 1800 RESPECT / 1800 737 732 or visit 1800RESPECT.org.au

Happy Lunar New Year

Council recently celebrated the Year of the Dragon as part of its Lunar New Year festivities. Held over three days in Lidcombe, Auburn and Berala, the community was treated to a bustling program complete with comedy shows, K-pop, food, arts, dancing, community workshops and karaoke. It was great to see thousands of people come together to take part in a cultural event that has a very long history in Cumberland and is symbolic to many in our community. The event also provided a great opportunity for the community to learn and experience Chinese, South-Eastern and Eastern Asian culture.

Toll Relief Scheme

Did you know that eligible motorists in New South Wales can claim a 40% rebate for money spent on tolls in the 2022-23 and the 2023-24 financial year? As part of the scheme, motorists who have spent more than $375 on tolls during this financial year will be able to claim a 40% rebate of up to $750. Payments to eligible customers will be backdated to July 1, 2022. This decision comes as part of the NSW Government’s commitment to toll relief and ease cost of living pressures on families. If you or someone you know could benefit from this initiative, then I encourage you to see if you are eligible.
