16 Days of Activism Women’s March
As part of the annual 16 Days of Activism campaign, Council hosted the Western Sydney Women’s March which started at Merrylands Oval and finished at Merrylands Civic Square. The theme this year is “UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls”. It was great to see community members, local organisations and service providers attend the march, alongside Councillors, NSW Police and staff to show that we are united against this scourge and to help plead with State and Federal Governments to help combat domestic violence.

'The Cottage’ Opening
I recently attended the official opening of The Cottage, this vital support service is operated by Open Support which is a community service of the St Vincent’s Clinic, providing outreach for the most vulnerable members of our community. This crisis accommodation facility will provide eight self-contained units for women and children experiencing family and domestic violence. The Cottage can accommodate up to 32 families or 102 individuals per year.
