Community News Update

12 April 2022

Message from Mayor Lake

Mayor Lisa Lake

Council’s April school holiday program is in full swing with a number of activities to keep the kids busy these school holidays. There is something for all ages from lawn bowls, NRL, soccer, tennis to Lego© workshops and much more. To view the full list visit www.cumberland.nsw.gov.au/whats-on

Additionally, Council is also pleased to be continuing its work in providing opportunities for children to engage in sport in the community. This month, the iconic Western Sydney Wanderers will be hosting school holidays soccer clinics for our budding soccer enthusiasts in Granville. The clinics are great for all ages and skill levels, providing kids the opportunity to meet and interact through football. This is one of Council’s initiatives to nurture the engagement and development of children’s sport in the community.

At last Wednesday’s Council meeting, I moved two Mayoral Minutes which were unanimously supported by my fellow Councillors, to provide both a $10,000 donation to the GIVIT NSW Flood Relief appeal, and a $5,000 donation to the Ukraine Crisis appeal. I’m pleased that Cumberland Council is able to play a small part in providing support during these two humanitarian crises, both local and overseas.

As Council continues the fight against COVID-19, I encourage all residents to join us and help keep our community safe, especially as we head into the wet and cooler months. COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters are available at various medical centres and vaccination clinics across Cumberland including the Western Sydney Local Health District vaccination hub at the Guildford Community Centre and the Granville Centre, which has been extended to run until the end of June. To make a booking at these centres or for more information contact NSW Health on 1800 571 155.

On another note, did you know that non-government organisations, charitable organisations, community groups and other organisations can now apply for the WestInvest Community Project Grants? This competitive round will provide $1.6 billion to fund new and improved community facilities and local infrastructure across Western Sydney. I encourage organisations and groups to check their eligibility and register your interest by completing the Registration of Interest Form (ROI) before 5pm on 21 April 2022. westinvest.smartygrants.com.au/westinvestcommunity

Lastly, with the Easter long weekend almost upon us, I would like to wish everyone celebrating, a happy and safe Easter, and hope you all enjoy the long weekend celebrating with family and friends.
