Easter 2023

Council will be celebrating Easter with a special event on Saturday 1 April at Central Gardens in Merrylands. The family friendly event will feature a range of activities, food and entertainment for everyone to enjoy. Council is currently seeking Expressions of Interest from stallholders to provide food and suitable activities on the day. Community members are also invited to provide their feedback on the upcoming celebrations at our Community Consultation which will be held on Monday 6 March from 6pm to 7pm at Council’s Merrylands Service Centre.

Water Safety

Council is driving a water safety community awareness campaign focusing on the importance of learning to swim. You will see our educational material around soon. I recently joined Deputy Mayor Suman Saha for his first swimming lesson at Wentworthville Memorial Swim Centre. By showing others how easy and enjoyable swimming lessons are, we are hopeful that others will be encouraged to give swimming lessons a go. If you too would like to learn how to swim, I encourage you to consider taking up lessons at one of Council’s Swim Centres. Council runs a number of children and adult swimming classes throughout the year.

Clean Up Australia Day Events

Council will be hosting a number of community clean up events this weekend to mark Clean up Australia Day on Sunday 5 March. Clean Up Australia Day is one of the largest community-based environmental events that encourages local communities to come together to clean up their local area. If you would like to participate, Council will be hosting events at Pemulwuy, Merrylands, Pendle Hill and Chester Hill.

Cleaner and Greener – Electric Ride on Mowers

Council is conscious of its carbon footprint and has recently acquired two new electric ride on mowers. The new mowers have zero emissions, hydraulics or oil which eliminates the risk of toxic oil leaks or spills into nearby waterways. The mowers are quiet in operation, meaning minimal disruption to residents and are much safer for the operator. They provide 8 hours of continuous mowing per charge and will reduce the cost of maintenance to Council over their life. In addition to this, the mowers are made from 92% of recyclable materials.
