Message from Mayor Lake
Ramadan Street Festival
Over the weekend, thousands of people flocked to Auburn for Council’s annual Ramadan Street Festival. This annual event provided an authentic outdoor experience within Auburn’s main street, and showcased the cultures and traditions of Ramadan including a call to prayer and speeches from community leaders. It was a lovely opportunity for our community to come together in unity and embrace Cumberland’s diversity during this holy month.
Youth Mental Health Community Consultation
Council recently held a Youth Mental Health community consultation session with young people to gain their insights and input on key themes that were identified at the 2023 Youth Mental Health Summit. Council is prioritising access to youth mental health support services and programs and will continue to work alongside young people, service providers and government bodies in this space. For more information or for resources on youth mental health, visit www.cumberland.nsw.gov.au/mental-health-youth
Charles William Munnery OAM Memorial Service
I recently attended the late Charles William Munnery OAM memorial service held by the Merrylands RSL at the Merrylands RSL Memorial Garden. Charles was Life Member No 2 of the Merrylands RSL Club and was President for 14 years from 1960-1974. He was part of the Merrylands Football Club and a member of the Merrylands sub-Branch from 1948 and Honorary Secretary from 1960-1961. The service held on Sunday 17 March, would have been Charles’ 100th Birthday. It was an honour to be involved in this service and to pay tribute to Charles’ life.
Happy Easter
On behalf of Cumberland Council, I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Easter. May this Easter be a time of hope and joy for you, your family and friends. I’d also like to remind residents to please stay safe on the roads and take your time while visiting family and friends
