Capture the Bloom

Capture the Bloom is Cumberland City Council's Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival Photography Competition, inviting photographers of all skill levels to capture the beauty, culture, atmosphere and experiences of this much-loved annual festival.

Whether you're photographing vibrant cherry blossoms, festival-goers enjoying the celebrations, cultural performances or unique festival moments, this is your opportunity to showcase your creativity and perspective.

The competition is free to enter and welcomes amateur and professional photographers alike. Winning photographs may be featured across Council's publications, digital platforms and promotional materials, helping to share the spirit of the Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival with the wider community.

Eligibility

You must be an Australian resident or permanent citizen aged 18 years or over.

Council staff may enter the competition but are not eligible to receive prizes unless otherwise determined by Council.

How to enter

Entries open on Saturday 22 August 2026.

Prizes

First Prize

One 12-month Blue Membership valued at $547, providing access to either:

  • Granville Swim Centre, or
  • Wentworthville Memorial Swim Centre

Second Prize

Second Prize One wildlife experience for one family (two adults and two children under 16 years) at Council's wildlife facility, including: 

  • A supervised wildlife interaction with a sugar glider and python 
  • The opportunity to bottle-feed and / or hand-feed joeys

Third Prize

One golf package for four players at Rosnay Golf Course, including:

  • One round of 18 holes for four players
  • Two electric golf carts
  • One box of golf balls

Judging

Photographs will be assessed by a judging panel appointed by Council.

Entries will be judged on:

  • Creativity and originality
  • Technical quality
  • Visual impact
  • Relevance to the Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival
  • Overall artistic merit
  • The judges' decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

Competition dates

  • Competition opens on Saturday 22 August 2026
  • Competition closes at 11:59pm Sunday 30 August 2026
  • Winners announced: Monday 7 September 2026
