  Message from the Mayor

Councillor Ola Hamed

Mayor Lisa Lake

Hello and welcome to the inaugural edition of Cumberland City Council’s new monthly newsletter!

In April, I had the pleasure of meeting so many of you at my very first meet and greet at The Granville Centre, and it was awesome! If you missed it, don't worry, the next session is on Thursday, 8 May at Guildford Laneway from 11:30am to 1pm. For the next session, I'll be hanging out at Berala Community Centre on Thursday, 12 June from 11:30am to 1pm. Whether you’ve got a burning question, a cool suggestion, or just want to say hi, come drop by. I can’t wait to meet you!

Now for some super exciting news, the first artist impression of the upgrade of Granville Park is ready to roll! Our vision is to take fun to the next level! We're talking about a brand-new water play area, a revamped inclusive and accessible playground, more amenities, and some seriously cool play features, not to mention shiny new change facilities. This will be a game-changer for Cumberland, especially when the warmer weather hits!

And finally, a big shout-out to all the mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures. Happy Mother’s Day! Thank you for your endless love, strength, and dedication. I hope you all get some much needed down time to enjoy your special day.

Take care and see you around Cumberland.

Ola

Greening Neighbourhoods

Did you know that Cumberland’s tree canopy is approximately 15%, with 50% of our area being hard surface? Council has planted hundreds of trees across Cumberland and continues to increase it in order to enhance our green spaces, make it cooler, and more beautiful for everyone.

Fireworks: Stupid Mistake, For Park's Sake

Not only can illegal fireworks cause serious harm, but they also cost you money in repairs to fix the damage. This is money that Council could put towards roads, footpaths or parks, meaning you miss out on improvements you could have otherwise had.

Seniors Club Cumberland

Are you a senior in Cumberland? This is your chance to connect with like-minded people, enjoy fun activities, meals, and discover amazing places in our local area; all for free at the Seniors Club Cumberland!

From now until November 2025, we’re offering a series of programs designed for seniors across four locations, with a final celebration event in December.

Art Lab Program

Cumberland’s newest Arts program, Art Lab, is on at The Granville Centre Art Gallery.

This program is perfect for children and families eager to explore art together, and is a great way to learn new skills, express creativity, and make memories.

With no booking required, you can just drop in and join the fun! It runs on the first Saturday of each month until June

Back to Guildford Festival

Council is excited for the return of the Back to Guildford Festival, a free family friendly event that encourages locals to celebrate our wonderful community.

Children's Clothing and Toy Swaps

Don’t let good things go to waste.

Pack up unwanted children’s items and bring them to Cumberland City Council’s Children’s Clothing and Toy Swap at Greystanes Library.

Footpath Renewals

Council has recently completed footpath renewals at Belmont Street in Merrylands, and the Great Western Highway in Greystanes, where over 630m of footpath in total was resurfaced and new concrete was laid.

Playground Upgrades

Council has completed works at Whyman Park in Greystanes. The space has been revitalised with a full playground upgrade, including new seating areas and installation of new play equipment.
