Solar Systems

Solar panels generate electricity or heat water from sunlight. It’s a clean, renewable energy solution that helps reduce electricity bills and carbon emissions.

Why switch to solar

  • Solar is a renewable energy source, meaning that unlike fossil fuel energy (coal and gas) it will never run out.
  • Solar is cheaper to run long term; this is because solar has the capacity to feed back energy to the grid thereby saving you money.
  • Solar energy can be stored if you have a battery with your system, this takes pressure off the grid.
  • Having solar panels may increase the value of your home.
  • Having solar makes you less reliant on the grid, especially if you have a battery. If there is a power outage you can keep the lights shining on the power using energy stored in your solar home battery.

Questions to ask when making the switch to solar

  • Will you get panels only or do you have space for a battery?
  • Are there any regulations that might impact getting solar installed e.g. strata
  • How much sunlight does your property get?
  • What is your return on investment?
  • How big of a solar system do I want/need? How much can I afford to spend on install?

Helpful tips for installing solar

  • Use an accredited solar supplier
  • When installing a solar system, the general rule is that 1kWh = $1000. For example, if you have a 6kWh system a cost estimate for install would be priced at $6000. Note this cost will increase if you choose to include a battery with your system.
  • Get at least 3 quotes before you decide on an installer, this will ensure you get the most bang for your buck!
  • If you live in a strata, you will need to check the State and Federal Government websites for rebates, this can significantly reduce the upfront costs on installing your solar system
