Message from the Mayor

Councillor Ola Hamed

Spring is in full swing, and so is the excitement at Granville Park! Construction of the brand-new Laurie Ferguson Splash Park is well underway. With demolition wrapped up and major groundwork complete, we’re one step closer to bringing this fun-filled space to life. Big splashes and bigger smiles are just around the corner. And that's not all, Merrylands Station just got a fresh upgrade with a shiny new fully automatic Exeloo! These exciting improvements are all part of our ongoing commitment to make our community spaces even better for everyone. Stay tuned, there’s more to come!

Get ready to time travel this September! National History Week is almost here, and we’ve got something special lined up to help you connect with the stories that have shaped our community. In partnership with Go Drivin, we’re launching a series of self-guided day trips that shine a light on Cumberland’s rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning natural landscape. Whether you're a history buff or just love a good local adventure, it’s the perfect way to rediscover the place we call home! Keep an eye on our socials and website for all the details. Your next local getaway is just around the corner!

As we get ready to celebrate Father's Day, I want to take a moment to acknowledge all the incredible dads, grandfathers and father figures who positively influence our families and communities. Whether it’s a quiet word of wisdom, a helping hand, or just being there when it counts, thank you for everything you do. I hope this Father’s Day brings you joy, relaxation, and a moment to celebrate with your loved ones.

Speaking of celebrations, our Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival has just wrapped up, marking another memorable event in our calendar. Visitors from all around enjoyed the stunning blooms in the Japanese Garden, along with cultural performances, food stalls, and vibrant community spirit. A big thank you to everyone who attended and made it such a success, and to the incredible staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make it all happen.

Take care and see you around Cumberland.

Ola
