Message from the Mayor
Councillor Ola Hamed
Council marked ANZAC Day on 25 April where we paused to honour and remember the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country. Their courage and legacy live on in the freedom and values we cherish today. This year marked 110 years since the landing in Gallipoli, and it was heartwarming to see so many in our community come together to pay their respects at commemorative services across Cumberland.
We've been busy Cumberland! In the last month we have been making great progress on projects that are making a real difference in our neighbourhoods. Kibo Reserve in Berala is currently under transformation with a new playground, a pathway for easy access, and sandstone seating blocks. We have also kicked off a road renewal on Hudson Street, between The Trongate and Blaxcell Street, South Granville.
In more exciting news, Council will begin construction on the much anticipated rebuild of a bigger and better Laurie Ferguson Splash Park in the coming weeks. It's a significant step towards a more fun, inclusive and vibrant Cumberland. We’re proud to be investing in accessible and free open spaces where families, friends, and neighbours can come together and make memories.
Lastly, happy Eid al-Adha to all our Cumberland residents celebrating this special occasion! Wishing you peace, joy, and prosperity during this time of reflection and community.
Take care and see you around Cumberland.
Ola
