Allan Gordon Ezzy was born in Burwood in December 1942 to Clevelin and Valerie. He attended school in the Burwood area, and left school in 1957 to undertake a plumbing apprenticeship.
Allan returned to Technical College to obtain his Leaving Certificate, with subsequent studies earning him further qualifications in management, local government, law enforcement, and legal studies.
Allan served the former Holroyd City Council with distinction for 38 years, including nine years as Mayor and two terms as Deputy Mayor. Allan dedicated his life to improving the wellbeing of residents and strengthening community connections.
Allan was first elected as an Alderman representing the Lawson Ward of Holroyd Municipal Council in September 1974. He was continually re-elected for West Ward until his retirement in 2012. Allan’s focus as a Holroyd Councillor was always on the community, working to improve local facilities and enhancing the local government area for the benefit of everyone who lived and worked in Holroyd.
Allan’s Mayoral terms were from 1985 to 1988, 1991 to 1994, 1997 to 1999 and 2005 to 2006.
Allan’s terms as Deputy Mayor were from 1983 to 1985 and from 1990 to 1991.
In 2013, the Allan G. Ezzy Community Centre in Pemulwuy was opened and named in honour of Allan for his dedicated commitment to the local community and the council.
In 1970, Allan married Patricia, and they had three daughters, Simone, Renee, and Vanessa.
Allan’s life was based on service to the community. He was a member of St John’s Ambulance and a volunteer Ambulance Officer with Central District Ambulance Service, until 1966 when he commenced working as a full-time officer in the service. He continued with the Ambulance Service until 1968 when he left to join the Police.
Allan built a stellar career in the Police Service. Whilst on general duties in 1970, he was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Brave Conduct following his involvement in the apprehension of an armed suspect. Allan would eventually transfer into the Police Legal Service as a Prosecutor. Allan retired from the service after 36 years as a Senior Sergeant.
Allan was a member of the Holroyd Rotary Club for almost 40 years. He held several board positions including that of President. The Club awarded him a Paul Harris Fellowship and in 2010 with a Sapphire Pin for his services and contributions to Rotary.
Throughout his career in local government, Allan tirelessly worked across numerous committees and boards. Many of these were focused on river catchments and flood authorities, a cause which had first brought him into local politics due to a flooding street near his Greystanes home.
Allan was a proactive member of the community and was involved with numerous organisations and committees during his time as a Holroyd Councillor. Some of these organisations and committees were:

- Flood Warning Consultative Committee
- Foundation Member of the Upper Parramatta River Catchment Trust
- Chairman of the NSW Flood Management Authorities
- The Australian Local Government Association representative on the National Flood Risk Advisory Group
- Local Government Association representative on the Natural Resources Advisory Council
- Local Government Association representative of the Metropolitan Greening Program Committee
- And many more
In 2003, Allan received the Australian Police Medal in the Australia Day Honours List for distinguished service in the police force.
In 2014, Allan was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day Honours List. He was honoured for his significant service to local government, and to the community through law enforcement.
