Message from the Mayor
Hi Cumberland,
As Father’s Day is near, it’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the fathers, grandfathers and father figures who make such a meaningful difference in our lives. Through their care, compassion and dedication, fathers help shape families and communities across Cumberland. From packing lunches and helping with homework to sharing life lessons and simply offering a helping hand, their contributions deserve to be recognised and appreciated. On behalf of Council, I wish all fathers and father figures a very happy Father’s Day and hope you enjoy spending quality time with family, friends and loved ones.
Speaking of celebrations, the Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival is in full bloom and continues through to Sunday 30 August, welcoming visitors from all around to enjoy beautiful blossoms, cultural performances and delicious food stalls. If you haven't visited, don't miss the opportunity to experience this event before it ends.
Recently, Council celebrated National Tree Day across five community planting sites, with more than 200 residents generously volunteering their time to help plant over 2,000 trees. Together, we're growing greener, healthier spaces for future generations to enjoy. Caring for our environment is something that matters to everyone in Cumberland, so a big thank you to all who rolled up their sleeves and helped make the day such a fantastic success.
Cumberland's rich connection to Dharug Country was also proudly celebrated during NAIDOC Week, with a variety of fun, welcoming, and educational activities for the community to enjoy including weaving workshops and cultural performances to storytimes and much more. Council embraced this year's theme, "50 Years of Deadly", bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together to celebrate and honour the cultures, histories, and achievements of First Nations peoples. What an incredible few weeks of community spirit, learning, and connection across Cumberland!
As we move through the second half of the year and with the 3rd term school holidays approaching, I’d like to remind residents about Council’s exciting School Holiday Activities Programs. Whether your children love science, sport, reading, creativity, or trying something new, there’s something on offer to keep them entertained, engaged, and smiling throughout the holidays. Be sure to register as soon as bookings open, as places fill quickly and spaces are limited. Visit Council’s website or drop into your local Council library or venue to pick up a program booklet and discover what’s on offer.
Take care and see you around Cumberland.
