Mayor Lisa Lake

Message from the Mayor

Councillor Ola Hamed

I have some exciting news to share! Our Council took home the Platinum Award for Best Visitor Economy Event at the Western Sydney Tourism Awards 2025 for the “Back to Guildford” Festival. When I was Deputy Mayor, I promised the people of Cumberland that I would bring the popular festival back to Guildford after 20 years and I delivered on that promise. This event was all about giving our community a fun reason to celebrate, connect, and welcome visitors to Cumberland, and it looks like we nailed it! A big shout out to everyone from our amazing community, partners, and locals who helped make the festival such a hit. I’m really looking forward to an even bigger crowd in May 2026!

In September, I had the absolute pleasure of welcoming students from Merrylands High School to another successful Civic Education Program at the Council Chambers. It was a fantastic day full of energy and curiosity, as students got an inside look at how local government works, heard from an inspiring guest speaker about resource recovery, and even joined me in a lively mock debate, which definitely brought the room to life! I’m excited to see this program grow, evolve, and welcome even more schools in the coming months. It’s a brilliant way to connect with the next generation of community leaders and I can’t wait to see where their ideas take us!

I'm excited to share that Council is making a splash with upgrades to the Laurie Ferguson Splash Park and the project is on track to be completed just in time for a summer full of fun in the sun. This is more than just a park, it’s becoming a vibrant hub for fun, relaxation, and family enjoyment. With freshwater features, exciting play zones, and brand-new change facilities right here in Granville Park, it’s shaping up to be one of Cumberland’s top summer destinations. Even better, the Splash Park will be completely free for the community to enjoy, making it an accessible and welcoming space for families. When I became Mayor, I made a promise to deliver more inclusive, high-quality spaces for our community and this playspace is a promise delivered. Stay tuned for updates and keep an eye out for the official opening date. You’ll all be invited to join me in celebrating the opening of this fantastic new space and I can’t wait to see you there!

For the very first time, Council is also proud to host a massive two-day Diwali celebration in the streets of Wentworthville. Come down to Station Street, Wentworthville on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 November and experience the magic of the festival of lights. I look forward to seeing you there!

Take care and see you around Cumberland.

Ola
