Artist in Residence at The Granville Centre - September 2025
Monikka is an Assyrian writer, performer and visual artist. She sees the arts as a vital tool to build connection, better understand each other make sense of the world around us.
She loves getting people involved through workshops and community programs and says it is a great way to make the arts more accessible and to support individuals and communities to create with confidence.
Her work is published in SBS Voices, Runway Journal, Southerly, Kill Your Darlings, The Lifted Brow, Meanjin and The Saturday Paper. She has also been published in several anthologies and has presented her work at various arts festivals including Wollongong Writers Festival, Sydney Writers Festival, NYW Festival, National Play Festival, WITS Festival Fatale and Sydney Festival.
Monikka has facilitated creative workshops for various organisations across Sydney and has experience working with diverse communities, including those where English is an additional language.
She is passionate about supporting children and adults in developing their creative skills and empowering them to tell their own stories and find their own style.
During her residency she built her own artistic skills through research and practice. She also ran creative workshops for children and collaborated with Voxstep, an organisation that utilises digital and theatrical tools to develop stories, to create an interactive app for the Cumberland City Council community to enjoy.
