During 2024, Council hosted 6 interactive community engagement sessions where residents shared their thoughts and their vision for the future of Cumberland, giving us over 9,000 valuable responses!
Key themes raised through Create Cumberland included:
- Public safety, including crime and youth safety
- Infrastructure challenges, such as roads, footpaths and asset conditions
- Inadequate parking spaces
- More affordable housing
- Redevelopment opportunities to diversify the housing mix
- Social wellbeing issues, including mental health challenges linked to social media
- Rising rates of homelessness
- Tending to the needs of our seniors
- Addressing cost of living pressures
- Traffic congestion and heavy vehicle parking in residential areas
- Development of a thriving employment hub, with a focus on attracting retail
- Developing more cultural and dining opportunities
- Prioritising environmental sustainability and protecting green spaces
- Improving waste management to accommodate future growth

"Create Cumberland" refers to Cumberland City Council's initiative to develop the Community Strategic Plan (CSP) 2025-2035, a long-term vision for the area's future. This plan is created with input from Cumberland's residents and outlines the community's aspirations and priorities.
