Accessibility

This event is access friendly with wheelchair access, accessible bathrooms and accessible parking.

Accessible parking is available in Holroyd Gardens car park with vehicle access from Walpole Street, Merrylands. There is also a drop off / pick up zone located outside the car park on Walpole Street.

This event will have available a Quiet Zone away from the main event for people with disability, seniors and their carers to have some time out when and if it’s needed.

Alcohol free zone

Holroyd Gardens is a public space and is an alcohol free zone. Bag checks will be conducted at the entry points and any alcohol found will be confiscated by Security.

Getting there

We encourage patrons attending Australia Day to catch public transport. To plan your trip by public transport visit https://transportnsw.info/#/

Free shuttle buses will operate every 30 minutes between 4.30pm and 10pm, to and from Holroyd Gardens, Walpole Street, Merrylands at the following locations:

  • Auburn Train Station, South Parade, Auburn (outside Auburn train station)
  • Granville Train Station, Mary Street, Granville (bus depot outside Granville train station)
  • Merrylands Train Station, Military Road, Merrylands (bus stop outside Merrylands train station)
  • Merrylands Park, Burnett Street, Merrylands (inside the car park outside oval 3)
  • Wentworthville Town Centre, Dunmore Street, Wentworthville (outside Wentworthville Mall) 

Riding your bicycle? There are bicycle racks at the event for you to chain your bicycle to.

Travelling by car? There is limited free parking surrounding streets. Walpole Street car park will be closed.

Accessible parking is located in the Walpole Street car park.

Getting into the event. Conditions of Entry. Bag Checks.

Entry and activities at the event are free. There will be bag checks conducted at both entry points (Pitt Street and Walpole Street).

Bag checks will be conducted upon entry by Security.

Persons are prohibited from entering with the following items:

  • Air horn;
  • Animals (except for authorised guide dogs/companion dogs);
  • Alcohol;
  • Clothing which is Suburb or Gang related;
  • Glass;
  • Fireworks, flares or explosives;
  • Illegal substances;
  • Poles, sticks and banners/flags;
  • Weapons or knives.

Persons may be refused entry for the following:

  • Any person deemed to be intoxicated and/or disorderly;
  • Any person who does not comply with a request to conduct a bag search;
  • Any person who does not comply with a request from the organiser, security or regulatory bodies.

The possession of illegal items/substances are a criminal offence and will be dealt with accordingly. Any prohibited found will be confiscated by Security if found upon entry.

Inclement weather

In the case of heavy rain, the event may be cancelled. If you wish to confirm if the event will proceed in this case, please phone 8757 9000. Wet weather information will also be available on Council’s website and Council’s Facebook page as relevant.

Local Residents

We advise residents near Holroyd Gardens of likely increase in traffic, pedestrians and noise in the area on the event day and apologise for any inconvenience.

Fireworks will be part of this year’s program and will launch around 8.45pm. The fireworks used produce lower levels of noise but will still create some noise impact. We are mindful of the effects fireworks can have on residents living near to Holroyd Gardens, and on residents’ pets. Here are a few ways to manage your pets during the fireworks display:

  • Exercise and feed your pet before the fireworks. A tired and well fed pet is likely to be less anxious.
  • Keep your pet indoors during the fireworks display.
  • Close any curtains and keep on some lights. Give you pet a hiding space.
  • Put on some music or TV.
  • Distract your pet with games, toys or food.
  • Ensure your pet has fresh clean water.
  • If you can, stay home with your pet.
  • Reward your pet for calm behaviour.
  • Do not restrain your pet with a collar or lead during the fireworks, as they may choke themselves if panicked.

Pitt Street will be closed between Sheffield Street and Walpole Street between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.
