Cumberland City Council invites residents to decorate their homes in dazzling displays that showcase the spirit of Diwali while celebrating our community’s rich cultural diversity. This Diwali, let your home be part of a celebration that brings our community together in colour, light and joy.
In keeping with Council’s sustainability goals, displays must focus on the use of energy-efficient lighting and environmentally friendly materials. Not only will this help reduce environmental impacts, it will also make your display shine brighter for longer!
Join your neighbours in lighting up Cumberland with festive joy and cultural pride. Let’s celebrate Diwali together in a way that’s sustainable, inclusive and unforgettable.
How to Enter
Entries open 9am on Monday 12 October 2026
To enter, simply create your own Diwali-inspired lighting display at home and submit your entry to Council, including your address and a photo of your decorations.
All submissions will be considered for the Shine and Celebrate: Diwali Award, with winners recognised for their creativity, cultural expression and community spirit.
Eligibility
You must be a resident of Cumberland Local Government Area, over 18 years of age, or if under 18, have the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
Prizes
- Winner: $500 gift card
- Runner Up: $250 gift card
- Highly Commended: $100 gift card
Voting
A panel will shortlist the top five entries in each of Cumberland’s five Wards.
These finalists will be featured on Council’s website, where the community can vote for their favourites and go into a draw to win a $50 gift card.
Public voting will take place online from Friday 13 November to Tuesday 17 November 2026.
