National Carers Week

Recognise and celebrate the vital contributions of unpaid carers who provide support to family members or friends living with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or other long-term conditions.

Activities for National Carers Week 

Cumberland City Council’s Seniors & Disability Services will be hosting two events to honour the carers in the Cumberland community, offering support, information, and opportunities to connect with other carers.

Information Session with Carer Gateway

This activity will provide carers with valuable resources and information from Carer Gateway, aimed at improving their wellbeing and offering practical support. Light refreshments will be provided.

Where: Berala Community Centre, 104 Woodburn Road, Berala
When: Wednesday 15 October 2025
Time: 1:30pm to 2:30pm

BBQ Lunch and Lawn Bowls

This activity offers carers the opportunity to enjoy a social BBQ lunch, followed by 90 minutes of lawn bowls. This is a chance for carers to connect with others while enjoying a relaxing and enjoyable day. Limited transport options are available, so carers are encouraged to book early.

Where: Club Merrylands Bowling, 65 Newman Street, Merrylands
When: Thursday 16 October 2025
Time: 12:30pm registration, followed by lunch and lawn bowls until 3pm
Cost: Lawn Bowls is free for Carers and comes at a cost of $15.00pp for those support people the carers will be bringing.

Is transport available?

Limited transport is available for the Lawn Bowls event. Please confirm at registration if you would like to book for this.

What is the costing for the event?

  • There is no cost for the information session.
  • Lawn Bowls is free for Carers and comes at a cost of $15.00pp for those support people the carers will be bringing.

Can I bring my support customers?

Yes, carers are encouraged to bring their family or friends who they will be caring for on the day. There will be a per person cost for them. Carers remain free to attend.

Terms & Conditions (BBQ Lunch & Lawn Bowls):

  • Residents aged 65yrs or over (50yrs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders), and People with Disability aged 18yrs or over and their carers living within the Cumberland LGA.
  • You may be required to wear a mask while accessing transport.
  • If you have Flu like symptoms, please do not attend.
