Shine and Celebrate: Christmas

Cumberland City Council is excited to launch Shine and Celebrate: Christmas, a new lighting competition that invites residents to decorate their homes in dazzling displays that showcase the spirit of the festive season while celebrating our community’s rich diverse culture. 

Join your neighbours in lighting up Cumberland with festive joy and cultural pride.

Let’s celebrate Christmas together in a way that’s sustainable, inclusive and unforgettable.

Residents are invited to take part by submitting an entry available on this page from Monday 1 December 2025.

Key Dates

  • Nominations open Monday 1 December 2025 and close on Sunday 4 January 2026.
  • Panel will meet Wednesday 7 January and Thursday 8 January 2026 for finalists.
  • Voting will take place on Council’s website from Friday 9 January 2026.

Prizes

  • Winners will be announced on Council’s website and social platforms.
  • The most festive house in each of our city’s five wards with a Winner, Runner Up and Highly Commended.
  • One Winner in each ward will receive a $500 gift card, one Runner Up in each ward will receive a $200 gift card and one Highly Commended in each ward will receive a $100 gift card.

Acknowledgement of Traditional Custodians

Cumberland City Council acknowledges the Darug Nation and People as Traditional Custodians of the land on which the Cumberland Local Government Area (LGA) is situated and pays respect to Aboriginal Elders both past, present and future. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the First Peoples of Australia. Cumberland City Council also acknowledges other Aboriginal, and Torres Strait Islander Peoples living in the Cumberland LGA and reaffirms that we will work closely with all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to advance reconciliation within the area.
