The Cherry Blossom Trail

Take a self-guided walk through our Japanese Gardens and experience the wonder of our cherry blossom trees in different parts of the garden.

Daily from 9am to 4:45pm

Step into a world of delicate beauty and timeless tradition as you wander through our breathtaking Japanese Gardens during the cherry blossom season. With over 200 blooming cherry trees, the air is filled with colour, magic, and that once a year sense of wonder.

At the heart of it all? The iconic Cherry Arbour, the most photographed spot in the entire garden and for good reason!

Whether you’re looking to fully immerse yourself or just enjoy a quick stroll, we’ve designed two trail options to suit your pace:

Full trail

Slow down and savour the full Sakura experience. Perfect for photographers, families, and those seeking a peaceful escape, this trail invites you to wander, breathe, and immerse yourself in the beauty that surrounds you. Approximately 25 to 35 minutes

Express trail

Short on time but big on beauty? This shorter, more accessible route takes you straight to the highlights – including the Cherry Arbour and the stunning Torii Gate. Approximately 10 minutes

Don't forget your camera – this is your chance to capture nature’s most photogenic season in full bloom.

Where are the Cherry Blossoms located?

The Cherry Blossom Trail is located within the Botanic Gardens’ traditional style Japanese Gardens.

Are there guided tours of the gardens?

There are no guided tours.

Festival patrons are invited to explore the Japanese Gardens and view the Cherry Blossoms at their own pace. Please follow instructions from staff and avoid areas with 'No Entry' signs displayed for your own safety.

Can I have a picnic in the Japanese Gardens under the cherry blossom trees?

Unfortunately, food is not permitted in the Japanese Gardens.

How can I help take care of the trees?

We ask those admiring the flowers to avoid climbing, sitting or pulling on the trees. Please also use waste receptors to dispose of your rubbish.

I want to avoid larger crowds. What is the suggested time to attend?

The festival is likely to be quieter if you head out on a weekday. Weekends are especially heavy with crowds and often sold out.
