Council will invest $18.1m to modernise the pools at Guildford and Wentworthville, while carrying out minor upgrades to the Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre under the proposed budget for 2018-19.

The Draft Operational Plan 2018-19 will return $76.4m back to the community through an ambitious capital works program, while upgrading Council facilities and delivering better services.

Priorities of the 2018-19 Operational Plan include:

  • Recruiting 31 frontline staff, including 12 street cleaners to tidy streets
  • Shortening DA approval times by ten per cent
  • Overhauling fees and charges for greater equity and efficiency

Mayor Greg Cummings welcomed the decision to allocate a sizable share of Council’s $47m infrastructure renewal package, contained within the budget, to local pools.

“The Draft Operational Plan 2018-19 delivers what the community wants,” Mayor Cummings said.

“At the last election residents overwhelming told us they wanted to keep all of Cumberland’s five public pools.

“We now have to resource their priorities and that means bringing the pools at Guildford and Wentworthville into the 21St Century.

“The $18.1m will ensure residents are able to swim, exercise and compete in modern and well-maintained facilities.

“We are looking forward to working very closely with the local community, patrons, and local swim clubs to ensure the upgrades meet their expectations.

“I can assure the community we are listening and we are putting our money towards meeting their priorities.”

The Draft Operational Plan 2018-19 and Draft Register of Fees and Charges is now on public exhibition until 4pm, 17 May 2018 and can be viewed at haveyoursay.cumberland.nsw.gov.au.
