Mayor Greg Cummings is encouraging Cumberland residents to get reading these holidays for a chance to win a $100 gift voucher.

To enter, library users are asked to read, rate and review the books they read over summer, fill out the form and submit it to their local library for a chance to win.

Mayor Greg Cummings said summer is a great time to start reading whether it’s while relaxing by the beach, after Christmas lunch on the couch, on the grass in one of Cumberland’s parks or in the library itself.

“Cumberland Libraries are filled to the brim with fantastic books to get you through summer. You can find old classics, brand new novels, books from the best sellers list across a range of genres.

“The Cumberland Summer Reads competition is great chance to spark or reignite a passion for books and reading. We never stop learning no matter how old we are and books, both fiction and non-fiction are a great way to keep our minds active.

“The Summer Reads competition is open for adults over 18 and entry forms can be collected from libraries or downloaded from our website.

“Reading isn’t just for the adults, we’ve also got our kids Summer Reading Club for young people aged five – 18 years old.  This program open until Sunday 20 January is a great way to get children and young people excited about reading.

“This year the theme is Curious Creatures and young people can visit their local library to pick up a free starters pack and books to get reading. For every five visits to the Library, young people will receive a lucky dip and after 10 visits, will receive an entry into our major prize draw.

“Libraries will be open throughout summer and with eight locations across the Cumberland they’re a great place to pick up the latest book and keep cool in the air conditioned facilities.

Libraries will have changes in opening hours between Christmas and New Year’s. Opening hours and locations of Cumberland libraries as well as competition details can be found at cumberland.nsw.gov.au/library.

The Cumberland Summer Reads competition closes 5pm, 1 February 2019. The winner will be chosen at random and will be notified by phone.  For more information phone 8757 9060 or visit the website for entry details.
