31 October 2016 – Media Release

Under the Stronger Communities Grants Program, $1 million will be available for not-for-profit community organisations to deliver projects that aim to bring about positive change locally.

Applications are now welcome for a broad range of projects including those that:

Focus on increasing community safety

  • Address the physical and mental health and wellbeing of the local community
  • Promote increased participation in social, cultural, recreational and economic life
  • Enhance the value of community organisations and their ability to have a local impact

Joint projects between local groups working in partnership are strongly encouraged. Organisations can apply for funds from three separate tiers, the first being up to $10,000, the second between $10,001 to $20,000 and the third from $20,001 to $50,000.

Cumberland Council will be running several sessions to assist organisations in preparing and lodging their application. Three information sessions will be run at the beginning of November to explain the funding priorities, how applications will be assessed and conditions for successful applicants. Two grants writing workshops will also be held at the end of November to provide assistance on the development and writing of grant applications. One on one advisory sessions will lastly be held in December where you can get tailored advice on your project and application.

Cumberland Council Administrator, Viv May touched on the importance of this program in the development phase of the new Cumberland area:

“Local community organisations play a very important role in Cumberland and provide many grassroots initiatives which have a real impact on the lives of our residents. The Stronger Communities Program encourages these organisations to join forces to deliver new projects that target specific needs in the community; it’s all about Cumberland.”

The grant money is a part of the $15 million Stronger Communities Fund delivered to Cumberland Council by the NSW Government to kick start the delivery of community projects.

Applications close on Monday 27 February 2017.
