Cumberland Council will undertake a comprehensive Heritage Study to update existing records and recommend potential new sites for listing.

Cumberland Council Administrator Viv May endorsed the undertaking of the studies.

“Keeping our limited heritage resources is an investment and owners, businesses, residents and visitors all benefit as a result. Heritage listing will prevent demolition and neglected maintenance of these important sites.

“A Heritage Study has not been undertaken in the area in close to twenty years. Council is now going to act.

“Your history is worth protecting. While a lot of current heritage listings are about settlement and establishment of towns, we are also looking to identify places that have become culturally significant over the past 20 years” said Mr May.

Tender proposals could be sought by the end of 2016, with a heritage consultant engaged to commence in January 2017. The comprehensive study is slated for completion in mid-2018. A Westmead Precinct Study will commence in December 2016 and be completed by May 2017.
