13 May 2016 – Media Release

The NSW Government has proclaimed the formation of a new local government area (LGA) comprised of the majority of Holroyd City Council and part of Auburn Council to the south of the M4 and the Woodville Ward of Parramatta.

The new LGA, known as Cumberland Council, will have Mr Viv May act as Administrator and Mr Merv Ismay as Interim General Manager.

Mr May said the new Council would now begin a comprehensive transition process to ensure the continued delivery of services for the benefit of the local community.

“We don’t anticipate disruptions to any of our current services and it will be business as usual,” Mr May said.

“Rubbish collection won’t change and meals on wheels, library and childcare services will remain in place. Moving forward, the new Cumberland Council will review and work to improve all of the existing services and infrastructure to ensure value to all residents and businesses.

“Cumberland Council is committed to maintaining the high standard and quality of services that our residents expect from us but that does not mean we cannot improve.”

“New arrangements may be rolled out as the resources of the former Councils are consolidated and start to work with all stakeholders.

Mr May said Council would continue to update ratepayers as the merger transition process gets underway.
