Cumberland Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2017 – 2021

Note: Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan has been extended for 12 months to the end of June 2022. A new Disability Inclusion Action Plan will be available from July 2022.

Cumberland City Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2017-2021 offers a framework to guide Council in its responsibilities to ensure people with disability have full and equal access to the facilities, programs, services and information that Council provides. This plan sets forth strategies to positively shape Council practices over the next four years to ensure greater inclusion of people with disability, carers and families. The Plan is based on four key focus areas, nominated by people with disability, as being of primary importance in creating an inclusive community:

  1. Developing positive community attitudes and behaviours
  2. Creating liveable communities
  3. Supporting access to employment
  4. Improving systems and processes

The Cumberland Disability Inclusion Action Plan was developed in consultation with more than 1,913 people across Cumberland, including people with disability, carers, families, service providers, advocacy groups, Council Committees and interagency networks.

Statement of Commitment

Council is working towards making Cumberland a great place for all by providing opportunities for everyone to welcome, belong and succeed. This plan sets forward Council’s commitment to improving access to services, facilities and employment opportunities; create more liveable places and inclusive communities; recognise the rights and contributions of people with disability; and champion diversity in our community.
