Message from the Mayor
Family Christmas Fair wrap-up
Santa paid a special visit to Central Gardens in Merrylands for the Family Christmas Fair! It was great that so many locals came together to celebrate the joyful spirit of Christmas, despite the heat. I hope you enjoyed the festivities and don't forget to snap a photo at one of our Christmas trees around Cumberland!
Summer Break
Summer has officially arrived, and with it, Cumberland City Council is encouraging everyone to be sun smart and beat the heat. As we embrace the sunny season, it’s vital for the community to stay mindful of the risks associated with the summer heat. Remember to prioritise your wellbeing with sun protection (Slip, Slop, Slap), by staying hydrated throughout the day and seeking shade whenever you’re outdoors. For a refreshing way to cool down, residents can also visit one of our Council-operated Swim Centres, they’re the perfect spot to escape the heat and enjoy some quality time with family and friends.
Let’s work together to ensure that everyone in the community enjoys a safe and fun-filled summer, and remember to check in with elderly family members, neighbours and friends during times of extreme heat. I know this time of year is fun as we prepare for the New Year, and on behalf of Council, I want to implore you all to be safe, especially those that are thinking of playing with backyard fireworks. They are dangerous and can cause serious harm to yourself, those around you and even pets. So please leave this to the professionals and if you want to see a fireworks display, join us at our Australia Day celebrations on 26 January where we will fill the night sky with a spectacular show. Here's to a safe and enjoyable summer for all Cumberland locals!

Pursuit of Excellence Awards
It has been so rewarding to visit Granville East Public School, International Maarif School, Merrylands Public School, Holroyd School and Granville Public School to celebrate Cumberland's Pursuit of Excellence Awards. These students are nominated by the schools and should be beyond proud of the fine example they set for themselves, their school and their families. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of such a special day. I look forward to seeing you all continue to grow through the remainder of your schooling and who knows, it may be one of you sitting on council as Mayor one day!
