Message from the Mayor

Mayor Lisa Lake

Calling all sprightly seniors

It’s time for our seniors to shine at this year's Seniors Festival, which kicks off from 3-16 March 2025. We're never too old to participate in activities to improve our health and well-being and to make some new connections. The 12-day program for seniors living in Cumberland includes a bus trip, golf day and a pickleball gala day! I encourage our more experienced community members to come along and enjoy the fun. I hope to see you there!

St John Ambulance Granville Combined Division Awards Ceremony

For more than 135 years, through fire and flood, St John Ambulance NSW has been here to save lives and build safer communities. Last week I was honoured to attend the Granville Combined Division Awards Ceremony, highlighting key individuals who tirelessly give back to our community and provide care and compassion to people in need. I’m so proud that Cumberland has the biggest St John Ambulance Unit in the country, and the biggest junior program in NSW. I would like to personally thank the CEO, Dominic Teakle, NSW Commissioner, Ilan Lowbeer and General Manager, Vanessa Lorford-Mills for inviting me to attend such a wonderful event.

Tap into your creative mind

Council is holding free Wellbeing workshops at The Granville Centre Art Gallery every second Thursday of each month, from February to June 2025. The workshops are guided by a certified art therapist and activities include drawing, painting, poetry, and collage making. Don’t forget to register to attend these sessions and please let me know what you think!

Pitch perfect

How awesome is this! I hope you're as impressed as I was by the recent upgrades to the cricket practice nets at Granville Park, which are now open to the community. We now have a new synthetic pitch, an additional ball screen and rubber matting, making the facility more accessible for both training and casual use. These nets have long been a popular spot for local community groups, and the investment in our green spaces has been a welcome development. It’s exciting to see how these enhancements will benefit not just cricket enthusiasts, but everyone who enjoys this valuable public space. Keep an eye on our socials for more updates!
