From Analog to Digital: Tech Savvy Seniors Plug In!

Mark your calendars, savvy seniors! From Wednesday 5 March, Council will be hosting ‘Tech Savvy Seniors’, a FREE digital literacy program designed to help adults 55 years and over build confidence with technology. Seniors will learn how to use computers, tablets and smartphones to stay connected with family, friends and essential services. Whether it’s sending emails, browsing safely online, or making video calls, staff will provide patient, step-by-step guidance. I can’t wait to see participants gain independence and confidence online. If you or someone you know could benefit from this exciting opportunity to embrace technology, register now!

Callsign Maverick: Aviation Careers Take Off at the Job Expo!

Last week I was delighted to attend the Flightdeck’s Return-to-Work Program. The program supports women 45 years and over, including migrants and refugees, enter or re-enter the Australian job market, and equips participants with essential skills and confidence to meet industry demands. It includes 6 full-day workshops covering career mapping, interview skills, and professional readiness, along with six one-on-one mentoring sessions and dedicated support. One of the workshops I attended, the Aviation Careers Forum and Jobs Expo for Women, was such a success. I was impressed to see how many women were interested in aviation careers as they networked with employers in Western Sydney’s aviation sector. I hope to see more of these amazing women behind the wheel next time I fly!

Etched in History – Historical Society Room Name Revealed

The dedication ceremony of the newly renamed June and Barry Bullivant Rooms took place on Wednesday, 19 February with Harry Stephens, President of the Granville Historical Society and Brett Heydon, grandson of June Bullivant. The original community meeting room was officially dedicated to June and Barry Bullivant, honouring their contributions to the Granville Historical Society. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the privilege of calling June and Barry my friends. They were both remarkable, inspirational people who set an example for all of us to strive towards. In 1988, June and Barry founded the Granville Historical Society with a clear vision to preserve the rich history of Granville and its surrounding areas - the stories of families, churches, houses, industries and organisations. I’m so glad that June was able to join us to see just how much her and Barry’s contributions made to the Cumberland community. I just wish Barry could have been here with us also, but he was in spirit I’m sure, Cheers to you old mate!
