Message from the Mayor
Canal Road Park opening
Last week, Canal Road Park in Greystanes officially opened to the community and it’s looking better than ever! The park has undergone a major transformation and now features a vibrant and engaging playground designed for children of all ages. It also includes a new 200m long pathway connecting Canal Road to the Lower Prospect Canal shared pathway system offering seamless access for cyclists and pedestrians. We have also created an amazing outdoor nature education space! Combining native plants, winding pathways, boulders to climb on, and carved sandstone blocks perfect for sitting and soaking in nature makes it a fantastic spot for learning and connecting with our environment and Country! To celebrate the rich heritage of the Darug people, you will find stunning indigenous artworks by Darug artist Jamie Eastwood etched into the pathway and play elements. If you’re seeking a spot to relax, a place for family outings, or a place to connect with nature, Canal Road Park is sure to become the destination for locals this summer.
Pursuit of Excellence School Awards
It was wonderful to join Holy Family Primary School in Granville to present Cumberland’s Pursuit of Excellence Academic Award. These awards are an important achievement and recognises one student per school for their outstanding achievements in the areas of school spirit, personal excellence or friendship and peer support. Congratulations to all recipients, and I look forward to watching you grow throughout the remainder of your education and academic journeys.
Merry Christmas
Christmas is upon us, and the excitement of the holiday season is truly in the air! As the vibrant decorations colour our local area, it is the twinkling lights, beautifully adorned Christmas trees, festive wreaths and cheerful flags that remind us to embrace the joyous spirit of this magical time of year. I hope everyone takes this time to gather with loved ones, family, and friends to celebrate, reflect, and create cherished memories. Regardless of your beliefs, Christmas in Cumberland is a celebration of inclusivity and togetherness, a time when everyone is welcome to share in the joy and beauty of our diverse cultural heritage. It’s a season that encourages us to appreciate one another and spread goodwill.
As we approach the New Year, I hope everyone looks ahead with excitement. Let’s continue to foster the warmth and unity that make our community so special. During this festive period, I urge everyone to stay safe, look out for one another, and savour these precious moments with those who matter most. Thank you for being part of our vibrant community, and I look forward to seeing you around Cumberland in 2025. Merry Christmas!
