Mayor Lisa Lake

Cumberland, I want to Meet You!

I’m excited to get out and meet our community and have a chat about what is going on in and around Cumberland. I will be making my way around Cumberland each month, with the first session starting on Thursday, 10 April at The Granville Centre from 11:30am to 1pm. Whether you have a question, a suggestion or just want to introduce yourself, come and say hi! I look forward to meeting you all!

Merrylands CBD Infrastructure Project

I’m delighted to share that the Merrylands CBD Infrastructure Project is nearing completion! This marks a huge milestone in the transformation of Merrylands, with groundbreaking upgrades that will have a lasting impact for generations to come. Over the past five years, Council has carried out major works on Merrylands Road, Addlestone Road, Main Lane, Dressler Court, McLeod Road, and Neil Street, completely revamping the roads, drainage systems, and essential utilities. From new stormwater pipes to upgraded sewer systems and power cabling, we’ve been laying the foundation for a safer, more resilient, and better-connected Merrylands! This project has also delivered over 1,000 new dwellings in the Merrylands Town Centre, helping to address the critical demand for additional housing, while bringing exciting new retail and entertainment options to the community. This isn’t just about infrastructure – it’s about creating a future-proof Merrylands, one that is flood-resistant, well connected, and ready for whatever comes next. This massive project has been a game-changer, and I couldn’t be more excited to see this transformation unfold!

Breaking Fast with the Community at Iftar Dinner

Last week, I had the joy of hosting a special Iftar dinner, bringing our community together to share in the spirit of Ramadan. It was incredibly meaningful to open up my culture and this experience to a wider audience. The evening was filled with heartfelt conversations, reflection, and a strong sense of unity as we broke our fast and embraced the values of compassion and generosity that define this sacred month. Moments like these remind us of the strength in our diversity and the importance of coming together to build understanding and inclusion. A huge thank you to everyone who joined and helped make this gathering so special. Wishing all in Cumberland a blessed Ramadan Mubarak!
