Message from the Mayor
Playground Openings
Norman Park in Auburn has now reopened to the community and it’s better than ever! The park has undergone a major revamp with new seating areas, a drinking fountain, bike racks, and even a basketball hoop. These updates make it an ideal spot for people of all ages to hang out, get active, and enjoy the outdoors.
It doesn't stop there! Canal Road Park in Greystanes is also reopening this month. Come and check out the new playground and improved access for cyclists. It even has a great outdoor nature education space surrounded by the new native plants and trees.
In more good news, Kulgun Park in Auburn is also due to reopen before Christmas. The park boasts brand-new play equipment, extra seating and a cosy shelter area making it a comfortable space for families to relax while their kids explore. One of the most exciting additions is the nature play area tucked under the tall trees which provide ample shade. Accessibility has also been improved with a new path leading from Park Road, making it easier to get to the park. I look forward to sharing more playground openings with you soon.

Shelter Her Strength
Last week, I was invited to attend the Shelter Her Strength Leadership Forum as a part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender- Based Violence. Following on from Council’s 16 Days of Activism March, this event continued the conversation that should keep evolving. I was pleased to be a part of the discussion to help plan the future of service delivery and funding for prevention of domestic violence, sexual assault, and housing for women in Cumberland. With one woman murdered every week by an intimate or former partner in Australia, Council is committed to continue to work towards the prevention and elimination of violence against women and children.

Pursuit of Excellence Awards
It has been so rewarding to visit Holroyd Public School, Merrylands Public School and Merrylands East Public School to celebrate Cumberland's Pursuit of Excellence Awards. I have been delighted to see the bright future of Cumberland on display. The Pursuit of Excellence is an awards program available for all Primary Schools, High Schools, Special Schools, and K-12 Schools within the Cumberland LGA. The ceremony is an opportunity for the school community to celebrate the excellence demonstrated by a student nominated by the school itself. With these awards being handed out to some of the most talented young minds in our community, it was an honour to see these children achieve their academic goals. I look forward to seeing their journey continue, as they thrive and excel through their educational journey. To learn more about the awards, visit www.cumberland.nsw.gov.au/cumberland-schools-hub
