Message from the Mayor
Australia Day 2025
On Sunday, 26th January we gathered for a momentous occasion where 80 individuals took the step to become Australians citizens during our Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony. Becoming an Australian citizen is an important decision, and it was an honour to witness so many choosing Cumberland as their home. As each new citizen was sworn in, we celebrated the vibrant cultural tapestry that makes up our Cumberland community, which builds on the First Nations Australians, the custodians of the world's oldest continuing culture. Later that evening, I was delighted to see so many members of our community join us at Holroyd Gardens as we celebrated our annual Australia Day event. The evening featured live entertainment, including the incredible tribute act, 'The Whispering Jack,' performed by the talented Mike Vee. Attendees were also treated to a performance by Cassy & the Bossa Beats, which added a lively touch to the celebrations. The night culminated in a breathtaking fireworks display that lit up the sky, bringing the perfect end to a fantastic evening.

Wellness and Fitness Expo for Youth
On Wednesday 29 January, Council hosted a FREE Wellness and Fitness Expo at The Granville Centre. The Expo was designed for the young people of Cumberland, aged 12 to 25 years, to provide them with valuable information and opportunities from local youth service providers, mental health organisations, and sporting/fitness clubs. In line with Council's Youth Strategy, the expo was an opportunity for our youth to explore various services and activities that can help them lead healthier, more balanced lives. The youth are the future of our community, which is why we continuously invest in essential tools and services that support their physical, mental, and emotional health. I was encouraged to see so many young people come and learn about the services available to them.
