Message from the Mayor

Mayor Lisa Lake

Hello Cumberland!

I have lived in this area and alongside you, our community, my entire life. My love of Cumberland meant there was no other place I would have chosen to raise my family. As a mother of two children, I wanted to know that they would grow up surrounded by people from all walks of life, that they would appreciate the strength we draw from our diversity and that they would have access to the best in sporting and recreation facilities, open spaces, health care, schooling and programs and events to keep them entertained and learning about different cultures and ways of life.

Knowing what I wanted for our area inspired me to run for Council seven years ago, and today I am honoured to have been elected as the Mayor of Cumberland. Being on Council for the last seven years and watching this community grow and this Council mature has taught me the importance of unifying both our chamber and our community, to make sure we get the best outcomes we can for Cumberland, together.

I am a firm believer that nothing is achieved without the collective efforts of everyone involved. I will work alongside my colleagues in the chamber and hand in hand with community leaders, Members of Parliament, our local schools, our police area commands and our local health district to forge strong relationships that will, through the trust you have placed in me, deliver the improvements we all want.

This advocacy, on your behalf, will make Cumberland not just a great place to live, work and raise families, but also a thriving and vibrant community, a place we are proud to call home, strengthened by a community where everyone is welcome, where we all feel like we belong and where together we can and will succeed.

My priority is to make sure Cumberland gets noticed for all the right reasons. By showcasing not only how great Cumberland is today, but also highlighting our limitless potential, I will promote our community in a way that attracts opportunities for investment in our facilities, projects and programs.

Building on the work of former Mayor Lisa Lake, I will continue to ensure we have increased opportunities for community participation, a vibrant events program that celebrates our diversity and connection to and support for community leaders who are working tirelessly to assist our most vulnerable; all of this to foster a truly unified Cumberland.

Whilst there is much to be done in realising the potential we have before us, I am excited by the opportunity to bring to life the possibilities of what we can achieve together, and I thank you for trusting to me to lead us in a positive direction.

See you around Cumberland.

Mayor Ola
